Caleta Thomas, known as Leta

Caleta Thomas died on 2 January 2012 after a very brave battle with lung cancer. She went suddenly and never got to stay in the Hospice. But it was a great comfort during her illness to know that there was a beautiful and caring place to spend her final days if she needed to. And the Hospice came to her rescue at home, when she suddenly became very ill during the New Year public holiday. At short notice, when no other service had anyone available, they sent a wonderful nurse in our hour of need. Caleta lived with Denis in Shotley Gate and those last years of her life were idyllic in her view. She loved Denis, and his children and their families, who welcomed her warmly. She loved Shotley Gate and the wonderful friends she made there. And she loved being back in Suffolk, where her roots were, and where she was close to family and friends.
